The Opportunity:
The City is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the permanent full-time role of Social Wellness & Integration Supports Superintendent to provide Leadership and Supervision to the Social Wellness & Integration Supports Team, who focus on housing and homelessness supports and community safety and resiliency for our Community.
- The housing and homelessness supports focus is on providing administrative recommendations and guidance to the Council appointed Housing and Homelessness Integration Committee (HHIC), administrating funds to service providers based on HHIC decisions, designing the housing system service providers work within, and coordinating the efforts, performance management and accountability for achieving outcomes of over twenty (20) distinct community housing programs.
- The community safety and resiliency focus supports the integration of services, not just within the addictions and mental health sectors, but throughout the Safe and Healthy Communities Department, and facilitates collaborative community efforts on safety and mitigating crime through neighbourhood-level engagement and social diversion response teams.
This is a key role responsible for managing department resources, overseeing building capacity within the network of social agencies, leading and mentoring section staff and ensuring supervision and direction to contracted positions in other departments to ensure that funding transactions are in full compliance with program directives and evaluation metrics, supporting current and relevant decision making and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- The primary areas of responsibilities include Community Safety, Emergency Social Services, Housing and Homelessness Efforts, and Addictions and Mental Health.
- The Superintendent manages a budget of over $8 Million, communication and public relations, emergency social services leadership and cross-departmental policy development.
As the core activities of Social Wellness and Integration Supports are often political in nature, a key responsibility includes educating, advising and providing strategic direction recommendations to Senior Administration, Council, committees of Council, stakeholders and the public.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- University undergraduate degree with a major concentration in community development, social planning, social development OR an equivalent combination of other education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of leadership responsibilities and related experience in the social service and/or housing field with extensive knowledge and practice in social and community development, administration and supervisory experience, and demonstrated understanding of community development as a process for working in complex environments. Considerable experience in the voluntary sector and with organizational and community dynamics is required.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and procedures used in the development of community based social planning and capacity building.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of community development.
- Good judgment in making decisions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a committed team.
- Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to speak and write effectively.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to establish relationships and act with respect and integrity.
