Province introduces amendments to PACE legislation
AUMA welcomes Bill 10: An Act to Enable Clean Energy Improvement, which, when passed, will allow municipalities establish a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. This program will make it more affordable for Albertans to upgrade their properties without having to put money down, and gives municipalities another tool to make a positive environmental impact and help address climate change.
The proposed amendment is a win for AUMA’s advocacy efforts and municipalities. AUMA provided a letter of support to the Alberta government urging the government to allow municipalities to use PACE financing to support clean energy and energy efficiency projects. This proposal makes this possible.
AUMA will be following Bill 10 carefully, as the Alberta government starts its consultation with municipalities and developing regulations scheduled for approval in the fall of 2018.
