The Town of Ponoka is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Digital Communications and Marketing Specialist in the Communications Department.

Position Summary

The Digital Communications and Marketing Specialist reports to the Manager of Communications and will support the work of the Town of Ponoka Communications Department, working closely with the Communications and Marketing Coordinator and other Town Departments as needed.

This position provides digital and print communications and marketing support, including playing a pivotal role in helping plan and execute the Town’s social media presence each month, providing graphic design services that help promote a positive and consistent brand image, and assisting with other projects led by the Communications Department.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, execution and measurement for the Town’s social media presence and performance each month;
  • Assist with keeping the Town’s websites and electronic displays updated; 
  • Assist with the planning and production of a new Ponoka Visitor and Recreation Program Guide;
  • Support the communications and marketing needs of other Town Departments through development of digital and print communications and marketing materials;
  • Assist with video production, general office duties, photography, the promotion and execution of community events and other responsibilities and special projects as needed;
  • Help write news releases and written content for print and online promotional materials;
  • Assist with the promotion and execution of public engagement activities;
  • Attend events and meetings outside of regular working hours on occasion as needed;
  • And other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education

High school graduation and must possess a degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or a related program;

 

Experience

One to Three years of directly related experience;

Must have strong written and oral communications skills;

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  2. Working knowledge of graphic design principles and best practices, and proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop;
  3. Proficiency in video production and editing;

     

Other

Be over the age of 18 and be able to supply a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Valid Class 5 Drivers License 

 

Competencies

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of CP Style.

Additional Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using content management systems for website platforms;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using social media platforms while following best practices for promotion and advertising purposes, and corporate reputation management; Strong project management skills;
  • Experience and ability in conducting digital marketing and advertising campaigns, including Google and Facebook ads;

Working Conditions

Office-based work; typically includes administrative duties and varying levels of physical effort, including moderate lifting (up to 10 kgs), sitting, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, driving, carrying. Repeated motion of office tasks.

Recruitment

  • Position status: Full-time (1.0 FTE), permanent, AUPE
  • Salary range: $32.04 - $37.13 per hour
