Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director-Kananaskis Region, this dual role as the Kananaskis Improvement District (KID) Chief Administrative Officer and Kananaskis Emergency Services (KES) Manager is unique to government.

 

As the KES Manager, your responsibilities will include managing a multi-disciplinary team required for effective emergency preparedness, delivery of emergency services, dispatch, fire protection and Occupational Health and Safety Programs. As KID Chief Administrative Officer, you will work directly with four elected and two minister appointed members of council to deliver a prescribed set of programs as defined through Ministerial orders. In this role, you will be responsible for the effective administration of the Kananaskis Improvement District in accordance with the Municipal Government Act and within the authority delegated by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and the Minister of Forestry and Parks. You will be directly responsible for the communication and coordination of the Kananaskis Improvement District Council and the effective delivery of municipal services. 

 

Furthermore, you will be responsible for managing a combined KID / KES budget of approximately $4 million and a staff compliment of 11 permanent staff, up to 15 paid on call firefighters and 4 wage KES communications officers. This position will require extensive travel throughout the Kananaskis Region and at times provincially.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A university degree in a related field (park or recreation management or municipal management) supplemented with a minimum of four years’ progressive experience, preferably in park and municipal operations, financial management, contract administration and/or project management.

 

Equivalencies:

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one year of education for one year of experience or vise versa.

 

Preference will be given to candidates who have extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with Parks Division and Kananaskis County programs, legislation, policies, procedures and management plans. General business knowledge and experience with operational and management decision making processes and procedures is also required.

Hours of Work: 36.25/ week.

 

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a security clearance check and obtain a 5-year driver’s abstract.
