Job Description

Position Requirements:
•    Valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License and recent driver’s abstract demonstrating a satisfactory driving record. 
•    Clean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check. 
•    Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance. 
•    Minimum Grade 12 Diploma supplemented by a post-secondary degree or diploma in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field is desirable. 
•    Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment through the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Department is required.  All training schedules and certification maintenance for this designation as required by the Alberta Solicitor General must be adhered to and maintained. 
•    Minimum of 2 years of work experience related to the position with knowledge of municipal legislation, bylaws and policies, relevant federal and provincial statutes and policies,
•    Knowledge of court procedures on processing and laying charges. 
•    Specialized training in animal control and apprehension, is considered an asset.
•    Training within the past three years in ASP baton, OC spray, and Threat Pattern Recognition (formerly PPCT).
•    Successful completion, within the last 6 months or other assigned date, a Physical Abilities Requirements Evaluation (PARE) at a maximum of 4.45 minutes, or equivalent standard.
•    Demonstrated knowledge of computer and keyboarding skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office 365 products.
•    Ability to interact tactfully with various internal and external stakeholders and members of the public. Strong organizational and time management skills.
•    Proven ability to work effectively in a highly ambiguous, dynamic, and ever-changing day to-day environment.
•    Excellent communication skills including ability to write reports and communicate detailed information verbally. 
•    Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. 
•    Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
•    Must be able to work independently on confidential, potentially sensitive, and complex issues. Must maintain strict confidentiality. 
•    BEM, ICS 100 and 200 or ability to obtain.
•    Possess a current Standard First Aid Certification and Level C CPR with AED.
•    Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
•    Ability to work a rotating shift that may include holidays/evenings, overtime and/or callouts as required.
 

Responsibilities:
•    Adhere to issued appointments (Peace Office appointed Authorities; Bylaw Officer Authorities), within the scope of policies and procedures, as established by the provincial Justice and Solicitor General Public Security Peace Officer Program, and Town of Redcliff.
•    Promote and when necessary, enforce compliance with Town bylaws, provincial, and applicable federal statutes through proactively patrolling and educating others within and throughout the Town of Redcliff. 
•    Investigate, action, and enforce Municipal Bylaw complaints within the Town as required. 
•    Research and identify Bylaw enforcement best practices and communicate findings to senior management. 
•    Protect the integrity of employees and the business of the Town of Redcliff by acting in a professional and responsible manner at all times. 
•    Protect privacy, use information appropriately, and maintain the confidentiality and security of all information related to employees, businesses, and residents of Redcliff. 
•    Always Adhere to Health and Safety legislation and Town safe work policies and procedures. Ensuring the protection and safety of self, co-workers, the public, and the environment. 
•    Respond to animal/wildlife complaints; capture and impound stray animals and relocate wildlife as required.
•    Maintain/upkeep the kennel for impounded animals.
•    Compile investigative reports and lay charges where appropriate.
•    Prepare court files and testify in court as required. 
•    Conduct public educational seminars at assigned schools, service groups, and events as directed. 
•    Assist with emergency management regarding disaster services or other situations, as directed.
•    Attend training courses and seminars as required. 
•    Maintain relationships with community stakeholders and local law enforcement agencies. 
•    Operate an enforcement vehicle as required. 
•    Complete any other tasks that may be assigned by the Director or the CAO.
•    Provide reports when required to the Director, CAO, or Council, as required.
•    Identify and report road hazards and other infrastructure deficiencies. Participate with other enforcement agencies of jurisdiction, when necessary, to investigate collisions involving Town vehicles.
•    Ensure adherence to all applicable Town of Redcliff policies and bylaws.
•    Relate to and communicate with co-workers, management, customers and Council, enforcement agencies, and the public sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and complaints promptly and professionally; maintain professional working relationships with other enforcement agencies by maintaining ongoing liaisons.
