With a population of over 2,500, Fort Smith is home to the Northern Life Museum, the museum ship Radium King, and the headquarters of Aurora College. Many visitors come to see and/or paddle the world-class rapids on the Slave River where in the summer months, pelicans and whooping cranes nest in the surrounding area. Fort Smith is a nature lovers paradise where the quality of life makes it a great place to live or visit for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a unique northern experience.
The Town of Fort Smith is a progressive municipality with an annual operating budget of $13M. The Town is currently seeking a Director of Corporate Services to lead its finance, administration, and human resource functions. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer, (SAO) the Director is part of the senior leadership team working with Council to lead Town Administration; the Director may be required to perform the duties of the SAO in his/her absence from time to time.
The following are competencies required to be successful in this role:

Comprehensive knowledge of municipal government particularly in the areas that are under the position’s direction. It also requires demonstrated experience in the management of several diversified programs, services, and functions;

Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, computerized accounting programs, preparation of financial reports, administration of employee benefits, payroll systems and reporting, office administration, and a working knowledge of relevant municipal legislation, policies, and procedures;

Appreciation and understanding of the northern cultural and political environment;

Proficient knowledge in human resource management, job descriptions, performance review methods and techniques, staff training, development and recognition and mentoring & coaching; and
-
Proven competence in leadership, interpersonal and human relations, analytical & problem-solving skills, communications, team building, and attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
Base salary starts at $125,766 along with a generous benefits package including:

Northern living allowance of $7,927.26 per year

13 + designated paid holidays

Annual leave starting at 18 days/year (increasing to 35 days), plus 2 winter leave days

10 days paid leave in lieu of overtime
-
Sick leave of 1.25 days/month

Special leave to be used for circumstances including wellness, compassionate care, bereavement, immediate family illness, etc.
