The Opportunity: 

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for an Environmental Planning Engineer 2 to fill a permanent full-time position within the Environmental Planning section. The Environmental Planning Engineer 2 is responsible for the preparation, administration and completion of maintenance plans/capital projects and their associated budgets within various sections of the Environmental Services (Water, Wastewater, Waste Management, and Construction & Maintenance). The Engineer will also be responsible for providing input into approvals/master plans for the various sections. 

The primary focus of this role will be within the Waste Management area.

As our preferred candidate you will have:

  • B.Sc. Civil or Environmental Engineering, Professional Engineer registered with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta
  • Four years’ experience in the management (design/construction/project management) of infrastructure maintenance projects related to:
    • Waste Management facilities (preferred),
    • Water treatment plant,
    • Wastewater treatment plant,
    • Potable water distribution systems, and
    • Non-potable water collection systems.
  • Experience in Landfill Operations (preferred)
  • Experience in treatment plant operations and maintenance is an asset
  • Previous experience in master planning and approval document preparation
  • Broad knowledge of project management, construction methods and practices
  • Extensive Waste Management (preferred), water treatment and wastewater treatment process knowledge
  • Self–motivated / self-disciplined
  • Effective team leader and team member

What we offer:

In addition to the competitive hourly rate of $49.68 to $62.10 ($97,255 to $121,569 per annum) and an excellent benefit package; we offer a great work environment with a dynamic and dedicated team of professionals.
