ABmunis among Alberta's top employers
Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) has been named one of Alberta’s top employers for the second year in a row.
News broke on January 27 when an article listing Alberta’s Top 85 Employers in 2025 was published on The Calgary Herald website.
For the 85 organizations on this year’s list, being named a top Alberta employer is more than a badge of honour. It is considered a key recruitment tool in the province’s hot job market.
“It is a chance to be recognized for doing the right thing,” said Kristina Leung, managing editor of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, which oversees the Alberta’s Top Employers initiative.
“I’m delighted to lead an organization that gives employees the support and work environment they need to excel,” said ABmunis’ new CEO Dana Mackie.
The “Alberta’s Top Employer” designation is awarded annually by Mediacorp Canada Inc. Any organization with its head office or principal place of business in Alberta may apply. Employers are evaluated on eight criteria:
- Workplace
- Work atmosphere & social activities
- Health, financial & family benefits
- Vacation & time off
- Employee communications
- Performance management
- Training & skills development
- Community involvement
Numerous factors contributed to ABmunis’ back-to-back success, including:
- Health care benefits. The Wellable app offers employees health challenges and a wide range of on-demand wellness content, from meditation classes to recipes.
- Maternity & parental leave benefits. New and adoptive parents receive maternity and parental leave top-up to 100 per cent of their salaries for up to 12 weeks. When new parents return to work, they can gradually increase their hours to make the transition easier.
- Professional development & educational opportunities. ABmunis offers employees in-house and online training, as well as tuition subsidies for courses taken externally.
Now in its 20th year, the competition is a catalogue of best practices, representing some of the most forward-looking employers in the province. Other notable organizations that received the designation include Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), The City of Calgary, MacEwan University, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Strathcona County, and The University of Calgary.
