Alberta Energy Regulator Review: Get Involved

Alberta Energy Regulator Review: Get Involved

AUMA recently attended a session hosted by Sonya Savage, Minister of Energy, and senior provincial staff on a review of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).

AER’s review examines the mandate and system operations of the regulator, and sessions are being hosted to gather feedback from municipal associations industry, investors, environmental groups, NGOs, academics, think tanks, landowner associations, and Indigenous representatives.

The October 3 municipal session that both AUMA and RMA attended had constructive discussions, with topics such as:

  • socio-economic impacts of energy projects;
  • greater involvement of municipalities in the AER’s entire process;
  • the need to reward companies that comply with AER regulations; and
  • adding extra scrutiny for proven bad actors in the energy industry.

The Alberta Government also has a tool available to submit feedback online until October 14, 2019, so don’t miss out on your opportunity to have input.
