Alberta’s Remediation Certificate Program – No more backlog!
Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) amended the Remediation Regulation on January 1, 2019, and the changes included the creation of two types of remediation certificates: limited and site-based. The amendments were developed jointly with major stakeholders, including AUMA.
Efforts are underway to streamline existing processes deemed as barriers by municipalities in the past. In addition, as a result of AUMA’s advocacy efforts, AEP committed to processing all outstanding remediation certificate applications, ending the backlog. At this time, there are no remediation certificate applications waiting for review.
AUMA is pleased to see AEP has added resources to clear the backlog, and we look forward to continuing to partner with AEP on supporting municipalities dealing with their brownfields.
