ARMA’s ePilot and HHW update
The Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) is hosting a webinar covering everything from ePilot to household hazardous waste (HHW) on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at 10 a.m. The free webinar will provide participants with the latest updates and data on the ARMA Expanded Electronics Recycling Pilot, including the volume that Albertans are recycling and changes to the HHW grant provided by the Alberta government.
AUMA is concerned with the reduction in HHW funding by Alberta Infrastructure, which has led to further downloading on municipalities. We have called on the provincial government to reinstate the funding until an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) program is in place. We also plan to work with ARMA on supporting our members in the interim.
Municipalities have long called on the provincial government to expand existing recycling programs, especially electronics recycling. We were grateful when the Minister of Environment and Parks launched the pilot a few years back. AUMA supports a permanent solution to an electronics recycling program that can continue to accept new electronic products.
