ASH workshop on municipal smoking and vaping bylaws
Note: this workshop has been postponed due to the current health risks surrounding the spread of COVID-19
Action on Smoking & Health (ASH), Western Canada’s leading tobacco control organization, is hosting a free workshop to assist municipalities with the development of local smoking and vaping bylaws. The workshop takes place on Thursday, March 26, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The workshop follows AUMA’s Spring Municipal Leaders’ Caucus and will be held next door to the caucus venue, at:
Edmonton Chamber of Commerce Boardroom 6th floor, World Trade Centre 9990 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton
Youth smoking rates have exploded in recent years, and all levels of government are taking action to reverse this trend. Smoking and vaping bans are widely supported, and they help to protect youth and nonsmokers from the serious health risks of tobacco and nicotine addiction.
Over two dozen Alberta municipalities have passed bylaws to protect children and residents from smoking and vaping in public places. These bylaws place various restrictions on smoking and vaping in public places.
ASH has developed numerous resources and materials to assist municipalities with bylaw development and promotion. ASH will be sharing these materials with all workshop participants.
If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please contact Marilyn Bergstra at mbergstra [at] ash.ca (mbergstra[at]ash[dot]ca) or 780-426-7867.
