AUMA Convention delegates step up to donate to environmental charity

For the second year in a row, AUMA’s Convention delegates stepped up and accepted our Convention lanyard challenge. The challenge was originally the idea of Cathy Heron, AUMA board member and Mayor of St. Albert, who, in 2018, first challenged her fellow delegates to turn in their lanyards to AUMA staff in return for a charitable donation.

This year, our Convention delegates handed in 928 lanyards, enabling AUMA to donate $1,856 ($2 per lanyard) to the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation (AEF). AEF is a unique partnership between the corporate sector and the environmental community and has three main programs: environmental grant-making, capacity building, and community collaboration.

Municipalities in Alberta know full well the impact of environmental issues – from providing citizens with access to clean water to mitigating challenges from climate change. We appreciate our convention delegates supporting this initiative and look forward to next year’s lanyard challenge.
