AUMA extends Alberta Critical Incident Provincial Network funding for two years

AUMA is pleased to announce that we have extended our funding for the Alberta Critical Incident Provincial Network (ACIPN) for two more years.

The ACIPN is a peer-led, peer-driven support network of public safety personnel, whose volunteers are trained in best practices and deliver support in accordance with International Critical Incident Stress Foundation standards. The only charge for this program is for the initial training.

The peer support program reduces the stigma associated with psychological injuries and focuses on:

• Resistance: peers are trained to educate their colleagues in order to boost their psychological immunity against the effects of stress before they are impacted.
• Resilience: peers are trained in evidence-based interventions that meet the needs of individuals and groups who become distressed due to the nature of their work.
• Recovery: peers are trained to be able to recognize the signs of greater need in their colleagues and link those who need more to the most appropriate formal supports/resources (ensuring more seamless referrals to the next level of care).

The current membership of ACIPN includes more than 90 emergency service departments throughout Alberta, with their own dedicated call and dispatch centre. They are proud to offer real-time peer availability, activity, and activation from their 350+ peers on a 24/7/365 basis.
