AUMA members key to election campaign success
AUMA thanks all our members who actively participated in AUMA’s 2019 Election Campaign. From organizing forums to sharing social media posts, together we made the case that Strong Communities Build Alberta. Your actions helped to amplify the message that municipalities need equitable infrastructure funding, a fair share of cannabis revenue, and improved resources for police service.
And some of you went above and beyond. For example, the City of Airdrie hosted an election forum at City Hall which was live streamed on the City’s website. The City’s Council used the forum as an opportunity to ask candidates about the priorities identified in AUMA’s election campaign. Other municipalities highlighted these priorities in interviews with local media.
AUMA’s election campaign achieved about 30 news stories, reaching an estimated 2.3M people in Alberta and across Canada. Our supporting social media campaign reached about half-a-million people. All this activity had a concrete impact. For example, UCP candidates committed to work with AUMA to develop a new funding framework.
AUMA is now following up with the new government to build relationships and move forward with our priority issues. Stay tuned to the Digest for updates on our work. And don’t forget to encourage your colleagues to subscribe, too.
We welcome your feedback on the campaign. We are always trying to improve on everything we do, and your feedback makes our member engagement initiatives more effective. You can provide us your comments when you attend Municipal Leaders’ Caucus or you can reach out to your Board Member. Alternatively, send comments to %20communications [at] auma.ca (AUMA administration).
Again, thank you for your energetic participation. You have shown what can be achieved when we speak with a single, unified voice.
