CEO Dan Rude’s parting words

The following message is from Dan Rude, Alberta Municipalities' outgoing Chief Executive Officer:

By now, most of you know that I’m retiring at the end of the month. I’m calling it a career after working full-time for nearly 45 years, including 20 years at Alberta Municipalities.

It’s time for a new voice and a fresh face – things newly appointed CEO Dana Mackie will bring to our organization when he picks up where I left off on January 2, 2025.

I thoroughly enjoyed my two decades with Alberta Municipalities – first, as Chief Financial Officer, and then, as Chief Executive Officer for the last seven years. It was an honour to represent our member communities and work closely with so many talented and dedicated municipal officials. The energy and commitment to public service that you bring to your roles inspired and motivated me.

I want to recognize ABmunis staff members for all they do for our members. Our team has grown steadily over the past two decades to reflect the increased need for advocacy and changes to the services and products we offer. ABmunis couldn’t accomplish everything it does without these talented folks. It was a privilege to lead this remarkable team.

I truly appreciate the working relationships I’ve had with various provincial ministries and their staffs. It’s no secret that relations between ABmunis and the Government of Alberta haven’t always been straightforward. Despite this, I appreciate the provincial government’s willingness to continue discussing the needs, wants and aspirations of our 260+ member communities. I also appreciate the respect and professionalism the provincial government’s staff has shown to our association and its members.

Our association’s motto, Strength in Members, continues to ring true for me. When ABmunis speaks, it speaks with one voice. I’ve seen the great things that we can achieve when we work together to accomplish shared goals.

I’ll be watching from the sidelines in 2025, but I look forward to seeing what Alberta Municipalities does next year and for years to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I wish everyone the best of luck, good health, and continued success in 2025.
