Coal Policy Engagement

The Alberta government launched the Coal Policy Engagement website to gather Albertans’ input on a long-term approach to coal development. Albertans are encouraged to complete an online survey to help guide the discussion and kick-start the engagement. The provincial government also established the Coal Policy Committee, an independent group to lead a comprehensive engagement process. The survey will be open until April 19, 2021.

AUMA appreciates that the Alberta government reinstated the 1976 Coal Policy in late February 2021. We sent a letter to the Minister of Energy offering our assistance in the engagement process. Furthermore, we asked the Minister to host a municipally-focused engagement session to ensure that municipal leaders’ voices are heard directly.

The Coal Policy Committee will provide the final report to the Minister on November 15, 2021.
