Drive-Thru Voting Making Elections Safer

Voters in Strathcona County will be able to cast their ballots in a new way this upcoming municipal election – from the comfort of their own vehicles.

Initially offered by the City of Regina in 2020, the county felt now was a good time to implement it for themselves.

Drive-thru voting not only accommodates voters who may have accessibility issues, it also accounts for the physical distancing and masking requirements of COVID-19.

In the absence of internet or online voting, drive-thru voting complements many municipalities’ existing voting strategies which may include offering multiple voting locations to reduce risks related to mass community spreading.

While this innovative approach to voting may only be available in Strathcona County starting October 4th, other jurisdictions may follow suit as it provides yet another way for voters to safely participate in their local elections.
