Help make your community FireSmart

AUMA’s hugely successful and very well-received Public Risk Conference was held last Wednesday and Thursday in Edmonton. Nearly 70 participants from across Alberta were in attendance to hear from experts in their field. One such expert is Laura Stewart, a FireSmart Specialist with FireSmart Canada who presented on Wildfire Community Resilience.

“FireSmart is one of the foremost experts in wildfire management in Canada,” says Christine Maligec, Director of Risk Management, AUMA. She notes that, “FireSmart’s overarching key message of wildfire reduction is useful to AUMA from a risk management point of view. AUMA and FireSmart share a strategic partnership where AUMA uses the expertise offered by FireSmart to help inform our members of steps that can be used to mitigate wildfires.”

As we head into fire season, FireSmart Canada has a great brochure you can share with your residents to help reduce the risk of a wildfire in your community —starting with the home.

Thanks to all the attendees, presenters and organizers involved with this staging of the 2019 Public Risk Conference. We look forward to seeing you next year.
