Highway Vicinity Management Agreements pilot opportunity
AUMA and Alberta Transportation are working together to develop a framework to exempt highway adjacent developments from needing approval from Alberta Transportation under the Highways Development and Protection Act. The exemptions will be set out in Highway Vicinity Management Agreements (HVMAs) entered into by the Ministry and municipalities.
The intent behind HVMAs is to reduce red tape from the province and to provide more certainty and efficiency for permit approvals. HVMAs are voluntary, and each agreement will provide one of five levels of exemptions. The agreements will not impact local decision making on development permits.
Alberta Transportation is looking to pilot HVMAs with municipalities to identify areas for improvement and to ensure the process is beneficial for both parties. If you are interested in participating in this pilot opportunity, please email advocacy [at] auma.ca (advocacy[at]auma[dot]ca).
