Provincial engagement - have your say on RAPID Force!
Last fall, the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General announced plans for establishing the Rural Alberta Provincial Integrated Defence (RAPID) Force. RAPID Force expands the authorities and roles of Fish and Wildlife Officers and Sheriff Highway Patrol so they can respond to emergencies on behalf of the RCMP. The goal of creating the RAPID Force is to shorten response times to rural 911 calls.
On Thursday, August 6, 2020, Justice and Solicitor General held an information session to provide an overview of the RAPID Force, along with timelines for implementation. Slides from the information session are available, and a recording of the session can be accessed here (if prompted for a password, it is: ReHK7yTW). Please note that the recording will play best in the Google Chrome browser.
Justice and Solicitor General is also conducting a survey to gather feedback from municipalities on the implementation of the RAPID Force, as well as ways to raise local awareness of the Force. The survey can be accessed here and will be open until September 8, 2020. Based on the survey design, Justice and Solicitor General recommends either reviewing the attached presentation or watching the information session recording before completing the survey.
