Rural Transit Solutions Fund
This summer, the federal government announced the $250 million Rural Transit Solutions Fund.
The program aims to help Canadians living in rural and remote areas get around their communities more easily and connect with nearby communities. The fund will offer grants for planning activities and capital costs. It will target transit projects in rural communities where traditional transit solutions are not always responsive to the needs of the community.
Eligible applicants include municipalities, not-for-profits, public sector bodies established under provincial or territorial statute, Indigenous governing bodies, and provincial and territorial governments. To accommodate the needs of target communities, flexible solutions such as on-demand, ride share, and community car pooling will be eligible for funding.
