Share your views on water availability in Alberta

The Government of Alberta wants to hear from you – our members – about your community’s water-related needs, wants, and concerns.

Population growth, economic activity and climate variability are straining Alberta’s water systems as never before. That’s why Alberta’s Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas recently introduced its new Water Availability Engagement Guide to tackle pressing water management challenges and ensure Albertans have access to clean, reliable water for years to come. The provincial government’s engagement effort aims to explore new policies and strategies to boost water availability while protecting our precious aquatic ecosystems.

Alberta Municipalities submitted our response last week, drawing on insights from our past water policies and the expertise of the Sustainability and Environment Committee. Our submission emphasizes the critical need for accurate and comprehensive water data, as well as the importance of fostering collaboration between municipalities and the provincial government to address Alberta's water management challenges effectively.

We encourage you to share your thoughts by completing one of the provincial government’s online surveys, which close on January 24. Click here for links to the brief and detailed surveys, and more information on water management.
