Sponsor a resolution, shape ABmunis’ advocacy
If you have an issue that you think warrants attention, sponsoring a resolution is an effective way to empower Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) to act on members’ behalf. Members are now invited to submit resolutions that will be debated at ABmunis’ 2025 Convention.
Guide for 2025 Resolutions
We have published a new guide on submitting a resolution, which is designed to help inform members about:
- Key questions that members should consider before choosing to sponsor a resolution.
- What steps ABmunis takes after a resolution is adopted.
- How ABmunis’ degree of work on a resolution will vary widely depending if the resolution issue is a low or high priority for municipalities.
- A checklist to follow so you don’t miss a step.
If your municipal council is interested in sponsoring a resolution, visit our Resolutions web page to access all the details, including our 2025 Guide, the Resolution Template, and the Resolutions Policy.
Submission deadline
The deadline for submitting a resolution this year is June 30, 2025. The councils for the moving and seconding municipalities must approve the resolution by this date.
Have a more urgent issue?
If your municipality has a pressing issue that cannot wait until the resolution session at our annual Convention in November, you can present a request for decision (RFD) for a vote of members at ABmunis’ 2025 Spring Municipal Leaders Caucus on March 6-7. The deadline to submit an RFD is February 18, 2025. If you aren’t sure what action to take, click here to learn how a resolution differs from an RFD.
Contact ABmunis' Policy & Advocacy team by advocacy [at] abmunis.ca (email) if you have questions about resolutions or RFDs.
