Update from the Legislature - July 15
Bill 29, Local Authorities Election Amendment Act, is anticipated to advance to debate at Committee of the Whole on the evening of July 15, at which point amendments to the legislation may be proposed. AUMA’s senior leadership and Advocacy teams have continued to push for amendments to the bill to lower the proposed contribution limits, ensure stronger limitations on third-party spending, and allow municipalities to retain the authority to mandate interim campaign contribution disclosures prior to election day.
On July 9, the provincial government announced a panel to review affordable housing. The panel will be accepting submissions until the end of August, with a final report due to the Minister of Seniors and Housing by September 30.
