Update from the Legislature - September 9
On Friday, in response to rising infection rates, hospitalizations and ICU numbers, the province announced the implementation of new COVID-19 restrictions.
Measures include:
- Mandatory masking in indoor public spaces and workplaces;
- Restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs, nightclubs and other licensed establishments must stop serving alcohol at 10 p.m.;
- A recommendation for unvaccinated Albertans to limit in-person contacts by limiting their indoor social gatherings to close contacts of only two cohort families, up to a maximum of 10 people.
- A recommendation that employers continue with work-from-home measures
Monetary incentive:
After calling the recent surge in COVID-19 infections a “crisis of the unvaccinated,” Premier Kenney announced a new vaccine incentive program. It offers Albertans aged 18 or older a one-time payment of $100 for receiving a first or second dose of vaccine between September 3 and October 14.
As of September 6, 78.6 per cent of eligible Albertans had one dose of vaccine and 70.6 per cent were fully immunized with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Updated modeling:
The provincial government posted the updated modeling, reviews and projections it is using to inform Alberta’s COVID-19 response on September 3. The data is current as of mid-August and makes projections through to the end of September.
The legislature remains adjourned until October 25.
