Funding for Municipal Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Standards
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association request that the Government of Alberta provide municipalities with the funding necessary to establish energy efficiency and sustainable energy standards.
WHEREAS the Province of Alberta initiated a Renewable Power Expert Panel;
WHEREAS the Government of Alberta entered into a dialogue with Albertans around the issue of Renewable Energy;
WHEREAS the Government of Alberta must make available additional funding to assist municipalities to save energy and take a more sustainable approach to using renewable energy resources;
WHEREAS many Albertan Municipalities intend to take steps to increase efficiency and sustainability standards in keeping with principals of Alberta’s Climate Change Strategy, and
WHEREAS the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association has been petitioning the Government of Alberta to continue developing a Renewable Energy Expert Panel.
Energy-June 2015
Alberta Energy did not respond to the specific suggestions in this resolution and instead indicated that Environment and Parks is renewing the provincial climate change strategy and is looking at reducing emissions via energy efficiency, technology and innovation.
November 2015
The new Government indicated that it would be addressing alternative and renewable energy and energy efficiency, as part of the 2015 Climate Leadership Plan.
