Gaming/Casino Funds
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association request that the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission review their policy on bingo and/or casino disbursements and ensure that all proceeds are split equally among locations in the province.
WHEREAS the charitable gaming activities in the province are governed by the Criminal Code (Canada), the Gaming and Liquor Act (Alberta) and the Gaming and Liquor Regulation (Alberta);
WHEREAS the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission is the province’s gaming authority, responsible for administering and regulating the gaming industry in Alberta, including the licensing and regulating of charitable gaming activities. The Commission is established under the Gaming and Liquor Act;
WHEREAS many non-profit and charitable organizations within the province apply for charitable gaming licenses, specifically application to conduct bingos and/or casinos as a major source of funding; and
WHEREAS a non-profit and charitable organization’s proceeds from bingos and casinos are contingent upon the area of the province that the bingo and/or casino is held.
