EPR Regulations
Eligible EPR materials
EPR only applies to certain residential materials, such as Single-use Products, Packaging, and Paper Products (PPP), and Hazardous and Special Products (HSP). It excludes institutional, commercial, and industrial materials. The list of eligible materials can be found in the EPR regulations. Found on this webpage.
Collection Service standards
The regulations outline what service standards producers must achieve. Many municipalities with curbside recycling collection collect every week. The regulations may indicate a change.
Producers must meet the minimum service standard for curbside collection of once every two weeks for communities with curbside collection.
Producers must maintain depot access for those communities with depot recycling collection.
Hazardous and Special Products (HSP)
The standards for collection depots for HSP change depending on your community’s population.
- For cities larger than 125,000 people, there must be at least one permanent HSP collection site for every 125,000 residents.
- For communities between 10,000 and 125,000 residents, there must be at least one permanent collection site.
- For communities between 1,000 and 10,000 residents, there must be at least one collection event per calendar year.
- For communities under 1,000 residents, there must be at least one collection event per calendar year if the local government has requested one.
