2022 Fall Municipal Risk Management Series starts Sept. 15
Beginning September 15, Alberta Municipalities' Risk Management team is pleased to offer members four online seminars on risk management topics that matter to municipalities and community-related organizations.
Webinars are planned for September, October, November and December. Each 60-minute virtual presentation will be followed by a 30-minute 'Question & Answer' session.
Here's a quick run-down of the four online seminars we plan to deliver:
Workplace Abuse Policies
September 15, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Creating and maintaining a policy for municipal employees to report abuse in the workplace and implementing procedure for the municipality to investigate and handle these reports is increasingly important. This discussion will outline how to have clear policy/procedure to ensure safe reporting of abuse and avoid having things swept under the rug.
Cyber Security
October 14, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Overview of the cyber insurance marketplace, loss experience and underwriter appetite. We will review the 12 key internal controls that insurers require to evaluate cyber risk within an organization in order to provide a quotation.
Environmental Impairment Liability on Local Government
November 15, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act outlines how elected officials, CAO’s, and designated officers can be liable for punishment for environmental offences. We will cover this, and recent relevant incidents or lawsuits.
Life Cycle Maintenance Plans
December 15, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
As we move to a more loss-prone state, especially around natural disasters, we will explore the trade-offs of additional spending now to prevent larger loss down the road. We will discuss what a Life Cycle Maintenance Plan is and how they are developed with an overview of the process and deliverables. We will then explore the trade-off of higher-cost, more-resistive materials versus traditional construction materials.
