ABmunis leaders meet with Premier Smith & Minister McIver

Alberta Municipalities President Tyler Gandam and Directors Krista Gardner and Deborah Reid-Mickler met last week with Premier Danielle Smith and Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver to discuss municipal priorities and concerns.

Recent changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) and Municipal Government Act (MGA) were the focus of their conversation. They also discussed ABmunis’ desire for a better partnership between the provincial government and municipalities.

We appreciate the opportunity to meet with Premier Smith and Minister McIver. We hope last week’s meeting leads to more fulsome consultation and greater collaboration between the Government of Alberta and local governments across the province. We look forward to engaging with provincial officials in the months ahead as they develop the implementing regulations for the bills.
