ABmunis talks about state of online discourse at Cyber Summit
Alberta Municipalities Director Tara Elwood (Villages West) gave a presentation at the annual Cyber Summit in Banff on November 13, 2024. The summit, which was hosted by Cybera, brought stakeholders from across Alberta together to discuss the use of technology in different sectors.
Her presentation, entitled “The Digital Dialogue: The Impact of Online Discourse on Municipal Elections,” focused on upcoming changes to Alberta’s 2025 municipal elections, increased harassment of elected officials by residents, the use of social media by municipal governments, and ABmunis’ upcoming campaign, Fostering a Culture of Respect.
The Fostering a Culture of Respect project, which ABmunis will formally launch in early 2025, will provide educational materials for potential candidates, webinars with information on elections, and a video series with elected officials from across Alberta describing what local government looks like.
