Albertans share ABmunis’ view: Keep political parties out of local elections
Postmedia shared the results of a Government of Alberta survey conducted last year in which 70 per cent of respondents said they were opposed to putting political parties on municipal election ballots.
These results align with the findings of survey conducted on behalf of ABmunis, as well as the resolution adopted by members calling for political parties to stay out of local elections.
As ABmunis Director Andrew Knack points out in the article, “Albertans are clearly stating loud and clear that this is not something they want.”
Alberta Municipalities looks forward to reviewing the full results of the provincial government's November 2023 surveys on potential changes to the Local Authorities Election Act and the Municipal Government Act whenever they are made public. We also look forward to seeing Albertans' feedback reflected in any changes the Government of Alberta makes to these acts.
