President’s Summit on Civility
More than 300 municipal officials joined Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) President Tyler Gandam for his President’s Summit on Civility in Edmonton on March 5.
Participants started their busy day by trying out a new board game, TownSquare, developed by the Common Ground initiative led by Jared Wesley. Its creators describe TownSquare as more than a game – it is "a dynamic experience in which players step into the shoes of activists, politicians and concerned citizens to navigate real-world discussions."
The summit featured a wide range of breakout sessions and discussions on related topics, including:
- Dealing with harassment in the council chamber and workplace
- Looking after yourself and your colleagues
- Preparing Alberta’s future municipal leaders.
We are grateful to have worked with so many amazing presenters who worked diligently to develop tailored presentations for attendees. We thank everyone who participated in this year’s summit and made it a resounding success.
We are preparing a short “What we heard” report from the 2025 President's Summit, complete with tips and tricks from our presenters, based on participants’ feedback. We look forward to sharing it with you in the coming weeks.
The next President's Summit will take place in early 2027.
