Celebrating recent CEIP successes
Municipalities big and small launched Clean Energy Improvement Programs (CEIPs) to great success in fall 2022.
Most recently, the City of St. Albert received so much interest on opening day that, within 24 hours, it had reached capacity for the funds allocated to year one of the program! Up to $4.6 million is available for the first four years of St. Albert’s program; waitlisted submissions will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis as financing dollars become available.
The Town of Athabasca was the first new program to open this fall, followed by the Town of Canmore in November. The City of Calgary is busy getting everything in place to open in early 2023.
The CEIP is an innovative community emissions reduction solution available for all municipalities in Alberta to implement locally. The program provides a new kind of financing that enables residential and commercial property owners to pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. Property owners gain access to flexible, long-term financing through their municipality. Unlike a traditional loan, repayment is facilitated by a tax added to the property’s tax bill.
