Danielle Smith: Alberta’s 19th premier
United Conservative Party (UCP) leader Danielle Smith was sworn in as premier on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at a brief closed-door ceremony at Government House in Edmonton. She became the province’s 19th premier and the third woman to hold Alberta’s top political office.
When Smith spoke at ABmunis’ UCP Leadership Contestants’ forum at Convention on Sept. 22, she described the current state of relations between the Government of Alberta and municipalities as strained. She told the 1,100 municipal leaders in attendance that she would work to ensure municipalities are treated more fairly. Click here to see her responses to the questions we asked all the UCP leadership hopefuls.
We look forward to meeting Premier Smith to discuss municipal infrastructure funding, the provincial education tax requisition, and other Alberta Municipalities priorities.
