Drought Preparations 2024
New Drought Preparations web page
Alberta Municipalities recently created a Drought Preparations web page to share updates and resources with our members. We hope it helps municipalities address the numerous drought-related challenges Alberta will likely encounter in 2024 and beyond.
Move My License: Water Act
Alberta Environment and Protected Areas has asked all water license holders, including municipalities to move their water licenses to the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) by the end of 2024.
DRAS is the provincial government’s program to streamline its regulatory process and better manage applications.
This does not affect any conditions of the water license, but improves the management of the licenses from both the users and the government’s perspective.
Ongoing drought preparations have highlighted the need to improve Alberta's current water management system. The provincial government manages 25,000 water licenses. Even simple actions like contacting water licensees are not easy. DRAS enables such functions.
The provincial government has released a how-to guide to assist with this migration.
