Provincial Fire Liaison Committee seeks members

The Provincial Fire Liaison Committee (PFLC) is a newly established platform aimed at enhancing communication, collaboration, and support across Alberta's fire service.

The committee, which was created to address concerns about siloed work and lack of communication among fire service stakeholders, is led by Alberta Municipal Affairs. It serves as a province-wide table for developing and sharing information, creating sub-working groups to tackle complex or emerging issues, building capacity, and addressing recruitment and retention challenges.

The creation of the PFLC also satisfies a recent Alberta Municipalities resolution that calls on the provincial government to create a wildfire prevention committee to address issues around coordination between municipalities and the Government of Alberta. The committee is comprised of fire service professionals from various fire department types and regions to ensure diverse representation. Members include representatives from the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association (AFCA), Alberta Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association (APFFPA), Alberta Industrial Fire and Emergency Management Association (AIFEMA), First Nations Fire Services, Metis Settlements, Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and fire services from Edmonton and Calgary.

If you are a fire services professional who would like to participate in the PFLC, you have until March 28, 2025, to submit an expression of interest (EOI). The Fire Commissioner and Assistant Fire Commissioner will review submitted EOIs and make membership recommendations. Successful applicants will be invited to join the PFLC.

Contact ma.provfirelc.m [at] gov.ab.ca (Krista Reinhardt), Provincial Fire Commissioner, for details on how to prepare and submit an EOI.
