Report card on 2021 resolutions
To increase awareness of our progress advocating on member priorities, ABmunis is publishing report cards on the status of each active resolution. This information has always been available in our resolution library but our new report cards offer an easy-to-read summary of the status of all resolutions from a particular year.
ABmunis’ Report Card on the 2021 Resolutions highlights the outcomes of our advocacy to-date on resolutions that were approved at our 2021 Convention. In particular, we draw your attention to the two advocacy wins presented below.
Provincial Commitment to Transition to an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Household Hazardous Waste Program
On May 11, 2023, ABmunis received notification that additional Household Hazardous Waste Program bridge funding for 2023-2024 will be sought by Alberta Environment and Protected Areas to cover costs until the Extended Producer Responsibility transition is complete.
Alberta Health Services Emergency Dispatch – Independent Review
In response to advocacy from ABmunis and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, the Government of Alberta conducted reviews and accepted all recommendations from the Alberta Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Provincial Advisory Committee and PwC’s Alberta EMS Dispatch Review. Former President, Mayor Cathy Heron, represented ABmunis on the Advisory Committee.
Since then, ABmunis’ Board Director Taralyn Elwood, Councillor for the Village of Alberta Beach, was appointed to the Alberta EMS Standing Committee to provide input on the implementation of the recommendations. While it is still early in the process, ABmunis appreciates that our concerns were heard and the provincial government is taking action with our involvement. We hope that municipalities will begin to see shorter emergency response times as implementation progresses.
