'Stop Housing Delays' web portal launched

The Government of Alberta recently introduced an online portal that invites housing builders, developers, and municipal authorities to report issues that may be causing delays in the building of new housing.

The provincial government’s Stop Housing Delays web portal seeks input on:

  • Federal or provincial policies, laws, standards or processes causing delays
  • Municipal bylaws or processes causing delays
  • Abuse of process by federal, provincial or municipal governments creating delays, such as requiring non-statutory studies for development and building permits.

Alberta Municipalities supports initiatives that can help speed up the production of new housing in Alberta. Adding new neighbourhoods to a community can substantially affect future growth patterns, residents’ quality of life, and lead to long-term financial impacts. For these reasons, it is important that all orders of government, developers, and builders work together for the benefit of current and future property owners.

We hope the Government of Alberta will be transparent with the data it collects and work collaboratively with municipalities to make improvements to existing planning and regulatory processes.
