Update from the Legislature – April 23, 2025
The Legislature is on a constituency break this week and will resume sitting on April 28. The legislature will begin evening sittings that day so that the spring session wraps up on schedule.
Debate on Bill 50, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2025, will resume next week. Alberta Municipalities recently concluded its preliminary analysis of the bill. A webinar for members will be conducted on April 24 from noon to 1 p.m. to review the highlights of our findings. Members can register here.
Municipal Affairs at Public Accounts
Representatives from the Municipal Affairs appeared before the Public Accounts committee on April 15 to address the ministry’s annual report for 2023-24, responsibilities under their purview during that reporting period, and any relevant Auditor General reports. You can review the transcript here.
Legislature Standings
In recent weeks there have been changes to the composition of the legislature, including the resignation of Edmonton-Ellerslie MLA Rod Loyola to pursue a federal seat. As of April 23, the distribution of seats is as follows:
