Update: Resolutions from 2024 Convention

Hundreds of members debated and voted on a wide assortment of resolutions last week at Alberta Municipalities’ 2024 Convention in Red Deer. The outcomes will help set the Association’s advocacy priorities.

Twenty-seven resolutions were submitted for consideration. Due to the high number of resolutions and the lengthy debate some resolutions generated, the Resolutions session ended before members could debate and vote on all resolutions. The result was:

  • 14 resolutions were adopted as presented
  • 5 resolutions were adopted with amendments
  • 2 resolutions were defeated
  • 6 resolutions are outstanding

In accordance with Section 45 of ABmunis’ Resolution Policy, resolutions which are not debated at a Resolutions session are to be considered by ABmunis’ Board of Directors following the Convention. The Board of Directors will review its options for the six outstanding resolutions later this month. An update will be provided to our members following the Board’s review.

For now, you can review the voting results in our updated 2024 Resolutions Book.

Feedback on our Resolutions process

We recognize that some members may have concerns that not all resolutions were debated at Convention. Later this year, ABmunis’ Municipal Governance Committee will be asked to consider whether changes to our process is needed. If you have suggestions for changing the rules for our Resolutions Session or our resolutions process, please send us an resolutions [at] abmunis.ca (email) before November 1, 2024.
