Workshops on Canada's History & the Municipal Role in Reconciliation

Alberta Municipalities and the Rural Municipalities of Alberta are co-hosting eight more virtual workshops that will explore how past government policies have defined today’s relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Workshops will provide municipal leaders with a deeper understanding of:

• Canada’s history of government policies and their effects on First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
• The lessons learned from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the 94 Calls to Action.
• Indigenous intersectionality and guidance on terminology.
• Common myths and how unconscious bias continues to contribute to misconceptions, prejudices, and stereotyping of Indigenous peoples.
• Practical steps municipal governments can take to advance reconciliation and create inclusive workspaces.

This workshop is open to municipal elected officials and municipal staff, and costs $25 plus GST for each participant. The workshop is being offered on the following dates:

• January 24, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• January 31, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• February 4, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• February 17, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• February 28, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• March 7, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• March 25, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.
• March 29, 2022 -- 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Each workshop has 30 spots. Due to previous high demand and an interest in encouraging knowledge sharing between municipalities, registration will be capped at 15 people per municipality per workshop. Register today!
