ABmunis observes provincial political conventions

The United Conservative Party of Alberta (UCP) and the Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) held their respective conventions last weekend – their final party conventions before the May 2023 provincial general election.

Alberta Municipalities monitored the debate and voting on party resolutions at both events, including the passage of a resolution at the UCP convention calling on municipal councillors and administration to be required to register as lobbyists. 

Resolutions indicate the priorities of party members. ABmunis will continue to monitor this and will speak to the new Minister of Municipal Affairs about it. We will also monitor other resolutions as necessary that might affect municipalities and municipal interests to ensure our members’ perspectives are heard and understood by government decision-makers.
