Additional transit funding for local governments

Alberta Municipalities (ABmunis) continues to call on the provincial government to provide permanent transit operating funds to municipalities. This call, which has been ongoing since a resolution was passed at our 2020 annual convention, has become more vital as many transit systems across the province have seen reduced ridership due to public health orders.

ABmunis is encouraged by the Minister of Transportation’s recent announcement that Alberta will match the federal government’s funding commitment to municipal transit systems. The total amount that will be provided will be nearly $159 million to help offset losses to transit revenue. Check back here for more details on this funding as they become available.
