Changes to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program in effect
Effective June 14, 2018, the Government of Alberta implemented changes to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) to simplify the application process, reduce wait times, and be more responsive to emerging labour markets.
The new changes of the program will:
- Simplify the application process by creating a new stream for applicants called the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS);
- Open up the program to virtually all skills and professions in Alberta with more flexibility for trade skills; and
- Ensure workers with professional, personal, and community ties to Alberta are first in line to become permanent residents with a pathway to citizenship.
Changes to the AINP will better support Alberta’s economic growth by nominating work-ready immigrants to fill labour-market needs. AUMA believes this change will benefit the Alberta economy by allowing qualified nominees who are already working and making Alberta communities their permanent home.
