Closing the Loop on 2014 Resolutions

Each year, AUMA members have the opportunity to submit resolutions on issues of importance to them. These resolutions are then presented, debated, and voted on by our members at the annual fall Convention. If passed, the resolutions remain active for three years, after which time they expire.

During the three years the resolutions are active, AUMA advocates and advances these positions. It is important to note that advocacy on some issues can take considerable time and advancing the issues can be incremental. However, AUMA is pleased that there were some successes achieved.

For example, following the resolution on Family and Community Support Services, the provincial government increased funding to municipalities by $25 million.  Additionally, advocacy relating to the dreissenid mussel invasion resolution resulted in mandatory legislative requirements for inspections of boats and watercraft that are transported into Alberta.

As a final step and to keep members informed, AUMA circles back to the sponsoring municipalities to make them aware of the results of advocacy relating to the resolution and any further advocacy that will be happening.
