Complete 2017 Drinking Water Plants Survey by June 30

Municipalities with drinking water plants serving 300 or more people are encouraged complete Statistic’s Canada’s Biennial Drinking Water Plants Survey. Drinking water operators should have received the survey. If your operator has not received the survey or has questions, they can reach out to environ [at] statcan.gc.ca (environ[at]statcan[dot]gc[dot]ca).

The survey results will produce a national portrait of treatment processes and costs, water use and source water quality across Canada. AUMA has used results of past surveys to demonstrate the need for increased federal and provincial investments in water infrastructure and to share the progress that municipalities have made in conserving water.

For example, late last year, Statistics Canada released results of the 2015 Drinking Water Survey, which include information on progress towards the targets set out in AUMA’s Water Conservation Efficiency and Productivity (CEP) Plan. The Plan, which was adopted by members in 2014, sets out targets for reductions in municipal water use and loss as part of the municipal sector’s contribution to meeting the conservation goals of the Alberta Water for Life (WfL) Strategy.

*As the Drinking Water Survey did not collect data for 2015, AUMA used the average between 2004 and 2006 for the purposes of reporting on the urban municipal sector’s contribution to the Water for Life goal of improving efficiency and productivity by 30% between 2005 and 2015

**Numbers revised by Statistics Canada.
