New user-friendly application process for AISH is available
The Ministry of Community and Social Services implemented changes on the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) application process to make it easier and straightforward for applicants, physicians and staff who process it. Albertans with disabilities now have a clearer, shorter application form that uses plain language and is tailored to relate to their situation.
Inputs from AISH clients, physicians and staff were considered to define the changes that were implemented. Among the improvements are a streamlined application process that reduces the time it takes to get eligibility information; the termination of a previous policy that limited the number of hours an AISH applicant could work in order to be eligible for the program; and improved procedures that support clear, individualized communication with applicants and options for appealing a decision.
The new forms, guides and reports can be found on the Government of Alberta website. Alberta Supports offers further assistance at 1-877-644-9992 from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and in person at AISH offices or Alberta Supports Centres.
