Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program FAQ

The Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) legislation (passed June 6, 2018) is a voluntary program that makes it easier for Alberta municipalities to help residents make affordable energy efficiency or renewable energy upgrades to private property. This is achieved through recovering the cost of upgrades from the property owner through their property taxes.

To help address current questions municipalities may have about the new PACE program, AUMA has developed a frequently asked questions sheet.

Over summer 2018, the Government of Alberta is working with Energy Efficiency Alberta to design a PACE program, including tools to assist municipalities. The government intends to consult with municipalities, lenders, real estate associations and other stakeholders to develop a guiding regulation over the summer of 2018. The legislation is expected to come into force in early 2019. AUMA will follow up with Municipal Affairs staff on developing flexible regulations for PACE that fits local needs of municipalities.
